Technology should create freedom – not lock us in

Nenolink deliberately works primarily with Windows, Android, web technologies and open-source software. This is not only about cost. It is about accessibility, choice and the ability to develop our own software, apps and digital tools.

open platforms technology

Why should one platform control everything?

When hardware, software, services, payments and distribution are tied to one closed ecosystem, users lose part of their freedom. We prefer systems that allow us to choose between manufacturers, tools and services – and replace one component without replacing everything.

Technology for children should be accessible too

We have never believed that children necessarily need expensive phones or computers in order to participate digitally.

This is No Go!

They should be able to communicate, learn, join video meetings, use school tools, play and create on equipment that is economically realistic.

When participation becomes dependent on particular brands or expensive ecosystems, digital access risks becoming an economic question.

That is not the direction we want.

Kids use open platforms
A choice of open platforms

We do not work for the platforms

Large technology companies naturally need to make money from their products.

But our technology choices should not be designed to maximise the revenue of a particular platform through hardware, subscriptions, app stores or services.

We choose the solution that makes sense for the user.

That also means combining Microsoft, Google, open-source software and other technologies whenever that produces the better solution.

A Deliberate choice

Nenolink works almost entirely within Windows and Android environments.

This is not an accidental rejection of other platforms.

It is a conscious technology choice.

We believe there is something fundamentally democratic about making technology accessible to many people.

A computer, phone or application should not have to be expensive to be useful.

Windows and Android devices exist at many price levels and can be combined with commercial software, cloud services and open-source technologies.

That gives users the freedom to choose the right tool for the task.

We want to build our own tools

Nenolink does not only use software. We develop our own solutions as well. These may include:

- Windows applications
- Android apps
- language-learning apps
- language technology tools
- AI-based solutions
- databases and workflow applications
- web-based tools

Windows provides a development environment for technologies including Python, Java/Kotlin, Android Studio, GitHub, databases, web technologies and local AI models.

An idea can therefore start on a Windows computer, become an Android application and later expand to the web or other platforms.

Nenolink's technology principles

Open standards

Data should, whenever possible, remain portable and reusable.

Freedom of choice

Hardware and software should not unnecessarily depend on each other.

Accessibility

Technology should be realistic for children, families, freelancers and small businesses.

Independent development

We want to be able to create our own applications and tools.

Reasonable costs

Money should be spent on functionality and value rather than unnecessary platform lock-in.

Interoperability

Microsoft, Google, Android, GitHub, the web and open source should be able to work together.

Frequently asked questions

Questions and answers - more will come

Is Nenolink against Apple?

No. This is not about opposing a particular manufacturer. Nenolink simply prefers systems that provide broad choice and can work with technologies from different suppliers.

Why Windows?

Windows supports a very broad range of professional software, development tools and hardware while also providing a practical platform for developing our own applications.

Why Android?

Android is available on many types of devices and at many price levels and provides good opportunities for developing and testing independent applications.

Why open source?

Open source provides access to technology, knowledge and code that can be inspected, adapted and combined with other solutions.

Does Nenolink develop software?

Oui. Nenolink travaille notamment sur des applications Windows et Android, des logiciels linguistiques, des outils utilisant l'IA et d'autres solutions numériques.

Does an open approach mean everything should be free?

No. Professional software and development have value. The principle is that users should be able to decide what they pay for without becoming unnecessarily dependent on a single provider.

Freedom to choose. Freedom to build.

Nenolink combines language, software, AI and open technologies to create solutions that adapt to the user – not the other way around.
